Arsenal have missed out on one of their potential forward targets for the summer. Antoine Semenyo was believed to be a player on the club’s list of potential winger optionsand an alternative to priority target Rodrygo of Real Madrid.
Bournemouth confirmed the news that the Ghanaian international had committed to a new five-year deal keeping him at the club until 2030. Upon making the deal official, the winger said: “I’ve grown so much at the club, both on and off the pitch, and I’m really happy to have signed ahead of returning for pre-season.
“From the fans to the staff and my teammates, I can’t speak highly enough of the people around the club. It’s a great place to be and I’m excited to get back to Bournemouth and continue the hard work with the new season just around the corner.”

Arsenal's sporting director’s holistic approach to player transfers means that he has been in discussions with multiple potential options for the various areas of need the club has this summer. Semenyo was considered to be a player of interest; however, the likes of Rodrygo, Nico Williams and Noni Madueke are considered above that of the Cherries talisman.
Yet it does showcase that if the club are to land a winger this window, it could be the position that takes the longest to find a solution. With both the striker and attacking midfielder, discussions are under way with Benjamin Sesko, Viktor Gyokeres and Eberechi Eze, with much more clarity on those particular players and their ambitions of a new challenge for next season.
Rodrygo being the club’s main target at left wing is a trickier deal to complete. Despite again being left out of the Real Madrid starting XI for the Club World Cup win over Juventus, and the Brazilian not even coming off the bench, there is no clarification yet on if the 24-year-old wants to leave and if Arsenal are a desirable destination for him.
If he does wish to find a new challenge and more guarantees over playing time, certainly the Gunners makes sense. He could finally move to his more natural left-hand side, but would have compatriot Gabriel Martinelli for company unless of course the former Ituano youngster sees the arrival of Rodrygo as a sign he too should look for a new challenge.
Arsenal can afford to be patient, with Martinelli and Leandro Trossard they are well covered already at left-wing. With potentially Eze coming too, the England international can also feature on the left flank – but fans will be hoping that the club do not leave it too late and miss out on a winger entirely.
