Bake Off star issues warning as baker admits 'I'm going home' after blunder

Send Push

A baker on Great British Bake Off feared she was "going home" after her pastry tarts went flat.

During the first task, the bakers were challenged to create a short crusted pastry tart with frangipane and an extra filling. However, as they began their baking disaster struck.

As Illiyin put her pastry in the oven, Dylan spotted something wasn't quite right. He told her: “Don’t freak, but your tarts in the oven, the walls are coming off.”

Instantly swearing, realising her tarts were falling apart she quickly took them out. Looking at the pastry, she said: “This is not good. I’m going home, this was supposed to be my week!”

Deciding to start again, she managed to finish her tarts in time, although it was clear the judges weren't blown away

When it was time for Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith to give their critique, Paul didn't mince his words.

In a savage remark, he said: "I quite like the decoration, that's quite cute. But, your shells look terrible!"

She replied: "I needed to make the pastry again, they all started to collapse."

However, it seemed as though it wasn't just the look of the pastry that didn't sit right with Paul as he told the baker she should've concentrated on one flavour in her creation.

Prue admitted the pastry was under baked, to which Paul agreed. He said: "It's quite soggy actually."

Giving her thoughts to the camera after hearing the judge's remarks, Illiyin added: "To have let myself down in that pastry, is just like 'dammit!'".

When it came down the the technical challenge, Paul tasked the bakers to create a spanakopita spinach pie.

Illiyin's luck seemed to change when the judges complimented her creation, calling it delicious.

Although they both agreed the colouring was slightly light, needing more time in the oven, she finished the technical in fifth place.

Sadly, Gill finished last, failing to impress Prue and Paul. On the other hand, Dylan blew them away and ended in first place.

Admitting it wasn't "perfect", they complimented his flavours and textures.

The Great British Bake Off continues Tuesday's on Channel 4 from 8pm
