Harvey Elliott is edging closer to a comeback for , with the young midfielder sharing images on social media of his time spent grafting in the gym as he recovers from a fractured foot.

Elliott has been sidelined for the past month, having picked up the injury during a training session with the England under-21s back in the September international break. The blow has limited to just one appearance since Arne Slot took over as head coach.

Elliott, who had his sole showing this season against Brentford, coming off the bench late in the game, found no minutes against Ipswich Town and Manchester United, despite being in the squad. That was before the intensity of the campaign ramped up with European and domestic cup competitions.

  • Yet there's optimism in the air, showing him diligently working on his rehabilitation solo, both in the gym and out on the training ground, accompanied by the promising words: "See you soon!"

His progress continued with more posts midweek and even further on Friday, where he enthusiastically captioned photos of his training at Kirkby with "With him! " The last snap notably captured him with a football at his feet once again.

While Elliott makes positive strides, . Speaking about team fitness on Friday morning, Reds manager Slot confirmed that keeper Alisson would be absent for the next few fixtures, describing it as a significant loss given the player's impressive form and longstanding contribution to the team.

He said: "Now the good thing is, and I said this many times, that Caoimhin [Kelleher] did well for us in previous years and this season also, so we have a good replacement. But you always want all of your players available.

"Now we've got quite some issues from players coming back from the national teams, and we can only judge that perfectly today because today is the first time that they are all in and the first time that they are all training together again. So, let's see after the session where everybody is.

"Macca [Alexis Mac Allister] missed one game [for Argentina], he played the second one. Kostas [Tsimikas] missed out in the first game against England so I can name them all but we've got a few issues going on and let's wait and see where we are after today. [Wataru] Endo as well was also sick."
