If you are going to travel by train and are thinking of getting a seat under the emergency quota, then now you need to be more cautious than before. Indian Railways has made the ticket booking process related to the emergency quota stricter. Now, to get a seat under EQ, i.e., emergency quota, the request has to be sent before the stipulated time; otherwise, your application will be rejected.
The Railway Ministry has recently decided that the reservation chart will be prepared 8 hours before the departure of the train. Keeping this in mind, the timing of booking related to EQ has also been changed.
By when will the request for emergency quota have to be sent?
According to the new rule of Railways, if your train is between 12 midnight and 2 pm, then your request for emergency quota should reach the EQ cell of the railway by noon one day before.
On the other hand, if the train is between 2 pm and 11:59 pm, then the request has to be sent by 4 pm the day before.
This means that if you send a request for EQ on the day the train departs, it will not be accepted.
What will happen on a holiday?
If your train is on a Sunday or a public holiday, then the request for EQ has to be sent not on that day, but during office hours on the previous working day. This is so that the seat is allotted on time and there is no delay in making the chart.
Why were these rules changed?
The Railway Board receives a large number of requests for EQ from VIPs, railway officials, and other departments every day. The ministry says that the allotment of these seats is done with utmost care and understanding. But if the request is not received on time, then there is difficulty in making the chart, which causes trouble to the common passengers, and the timely departure of the train can also be affected.
The Railway Ministry has appealed to all the officials and forwarding authorities to send the request within the stipulated time and also ensure that the person for whom the quota is being sought is really in need.
What is an emergency quota?
Emergency quota is a special arrangement of the Railways, under which some seats are kept reserved for the last moment. This quota is especially for VIPs, medical cases, railway employees, or other important passengers who have to travel in an emergency. But now the rules have been tightened to prevent misuse of this quota and make the system transparent.
What will be the effect of the new rule on common passengers?
Even though the emergency quota is for VIPs or special passengers, it causes delay in making reservation charts and affects the running of trains on time. Therefore, the new rule will also provide relief to common passengers, under which the charts are made on time, trains run on time and travel can be done without any problem.
If you or someone you know is thinking of booking a train seat under EQ, then it is important to be alert from now on. If the request is not sent before the stipulated time, it may be difficult to get a seat. Therefore, prepare a day before the journey and follow the new rules of the railways, so that your journey can be completed without any hassle.
