In a move aimed at increasing transparency, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has revised its post-result protocol for Class 10 and 12 students. Under the new system, students will first be allowed to obtain photocopies of their evaluated answer sheets before opting for verification or re-evaluation of marks.
This reverses the earlier process, which required students to first apply for verification of marks, followed by requesting answer sheet photocopies, and then apply for re-evaluation.
“A candidate after obtaining photocopy of evaluated answer book in the first step can decide whether to opt for Verification of marks which entails posting/totaling of marks or any unevaluated questions or Re-evaluation whereby the candidate requests for re-evaluation of a question or questions thereof. A candidate can apply for either Verification of marks or Re-evaluation or both as per due procedure after obtaining-photocopy of answer book,” the board said in a formal notice.
CBSE has assured that detailed guidelines for photocopy requests, verification, and re-evaluation will be shared after the Class 10 and 12 results are officially declared.
Results not out yet, CBSE urges patience
Despite widespread speculation, CBSE has clarified that the results are not being released on May 2. A senior CBSE official, who did not wish to be named, stated, “Results are not being released today and maybe not till this weekend too.”
Over 44 lakh students are awaiting the outcome of this year’s board exams. Class 10 exams concluded on March 18, and Class 12 exams ended on April 4. Yet, with no official announcement from the board, students and parents are urged to ignore rumours and check only the verified CBSE channels.
Results expected soon, but no date confirmed
While several media reports and social media posts have speculated an early May release, CBSE has made no formal announcement. Based on past trends, however, results are likely to be published within the next week. In 2024, both Class 10 and 12 results were declared on May 13.
The frenzy is apparent online—hashtags like #CBSE2025 and #CBSEResults have been trending on X (formerly Twitter), reflecting both anticipation and anxiety.
Why these results matter
The stakes are high. For Class 12 students, university admissions and competitive exam eligibility depend heavily on these results. Every percentage point counts. For Class 10 students, it’s about stream selection—whether they can pursue Science, Commerce, or Humanities.
These exams are not just a rite of passage. They often decide future academic and career paths. As a result, the pressure is immense.
CBSE Class 10, 12: Where and how to check results
Once declared, results will be available on the following official websites:
Students can also check their scores via DigiLocker, the UMANG app, or SMS by sending their details to 7738299899 in the prescribed format.
To pass, students must score a minimum of 33% in each subject. The original mark sheets will be distributed by the schools after the release of provisional online results.
Past performance and expectations
Last year, Class 10 students achieved a pass percentage of 93.60%, while Class 12 students stood at 87.98%. This year, the board expects an improvement in those figures, although official data will only be available post-results.
In line with its recent policies, CBSE will not release any merit lists. The board stopped doing so from the 2022–23 academic year to reduce what it described as “unhealthy competition.” Instead, only the overall and gender-wise pass percentages will be shared.
That said, based on trends, it’s likely that some students will score full marks again this year.
CBSE has made it clear—don’t rely on rumours. While anticipation is understandable, only the official board channels will carry the correct result dates and procedures. Students and parents are advised to stay calm, be ready with their credentials, and trust only verified updates from CBSE.
The countdown continues, but this time, with a little more transparency built into the system.
