Tamil star Suriya Sivakumar stunned fans with his impressive physical transformation in his film Kanguva. Known for his commitment to performance, the 49-year-old actor achieved six-pack abs without using steroids, undergoing an intense 100-day fitness plan tailored to his age and goals. The transformation was specifically designed for the film’s high-energy climax sequence, where he faces off against Bollywood actor Bobby Deol.
Speaking with Mana Stars, Suriya opened up about the challenges of sculpting his body at nearly 50. Comparing his past fitness journey to now, he said, “At 30, it was like running on a flat road. I am 49 now. At 49, it is like climbing a mountain. Your metabolism slows down. So, you have to do more cardio, a more deficit diet, and be stricter. During the shoot, I followed a 100-day plan. In 100 days, natural body. I achieved six-packs.”
Suriya's Diet and Workout
Suriya, who describes himself as a foodie, acknowledged that the process required a high level of discipline. Despite his love for food, which he shares with his wife and daughter, he remained focused throughout the 100-day transformation. “I have this body type where I don’t gain much weight. It is related to genes, I think. I like to eat a lot, I am a foodie. My wife and daughter are foodie, but my son is not. But in those 100 days, I tried to be as strict as possible. It is also a challenge to sport six-packs after 10 years,” he explained.
The actor's strict routine eliminated dairy, sugar, and processed foods, while prioritizing a high-protein diet and whole, unprocessed meals. He followed a disciplined meal schedule, avoided cheat days entirely, and focused on hydration throughout the period.
Suriya’s physical preparation included a focused workout routine built around core-strengthening exercises. According to his previous trainer Alkhas Joseph, movements such as pull-ups, chin-ups, and a variety of leg raises were regularly used to develop abdominal strength and endurance. These exercises, executed with consistency, helped improve his stability and contributed to his chiseled appearance on screen.
While Suriya’s achievement is extraordinary, health experts recommend the need for caution when replicating such transformations. Consulting a healthcare or fitness professional is strongly advised before attempting any similar regimen, as what works for one person may not be safe or effective for another.
