Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A six-year-old girl lost her life after coming in contact with an electrified pole in the Shahjahanabad area of the city on Monday.

The victim, identified as Ayesha, reportedly received a severe electric shock while playing near Umar Shadi Hall, Shahjahanabad police said.  This is the third fatal incident involving electrocution from poles or wires in Bhopal within a month, raising serious concerns over public safety and the upkeep of electrical infrastructure.

According to eyewitnesses, the child while playing touched the pole. She screamed in pain and collapsed as current surged through her. Locals rushed her to Hamidia Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

The tragic incident has sparked outrage in the locality, with residents blaming the electricity department for negligence. They allege that the pole had been live with current for several days and that repeated complaints went ignored. Police reached the spot and launched an investigation.

Residents demand

Residents are demanding immediate action against the responsible officials and an inspection of electric poles and exposed wiring in the city to prevent further tragedies. A case has been registered, and further inquiry is underway.
