Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, who was at the forefront of presenting India's stance to the world during tensions with Pakistan through press conferences, has made his X (formerly Twitter) account private after facing attacks from social media users.
Some users unearthed old personal posts featuring pictures of his family members and disclosed their contact details. Others made inappropriate comments about his daughter.
After Foreign Secretary Misri set his account to private, many users condemned the ongoing trolling against him. AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi came to his defence, stating that civil servants should not be held accountable for political leadership's decisions.
"Mr Vikram Misri is a decent and honest, hard-working diplomat who works tirelessly for our nation. Our civil servants operate under the executive branch – this must be remembered. They shouldn't be blamed for decisions taken by the executive or any political leadership," Owaisi said.
Several users have demanded action against those who doxxed and abused the Foreign Secretary and his daughter, including sharing her mobile number and making abusive remarks.
Netizens rally in support of FS Vikram Misri:
Meanwhie, Modi convened a high-level security meeting at his residence on Sunday with the Chiefs of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, along with Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Anil Chauhan. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval were also in attendance.
The meeting comes a day after India and Pakistan announced a mutual ceasefire agreement, bringing a temporary halt to escalating tensions along the border. The Ministry of Defence was scheduled to hold a crucial media briefing at 11 am today to address the prevailing security situation following a fresh round of tension between India and Pakistan. The briefing has been reportedly shifted to a later time and will be held after PM Modi's key meeting with top officials ends.
