External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar, currently on an official visit to China, held discussions with his Chinese counterpart, Foreign Minister Wang Yi, noting that both nations have made "good progress" in normalising bilateral relations over the past nine months.

During the meeting, Jaishankar remarked, "This year marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between our countries. We appreciate the resumption of the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra after a five-year hiatus and thank the Chinese side for their cooperation in this matter."

Emphasising mutual trust as the cornerstone of bilateral ties, he added, "The past nine months have seen significant progress in normalising our relations, stemming from resolving border friction and maintaining peace in the region. This stability forms the essential foundation for strategic trust and the steady development of our relationship. Our focus must now shift to addressing remaining border issues, including de-escalation."

Earlier in the day, the External Affairs Minister met Chinese Vice President Han Zheng in Beijing for discussions.
