Sehore (Madhya Pradesh): The police on Thursday claimed to have arrested a labourer for strangulating a woman to death in the Mandi police station area in the city.
The labourer gave her sleeping pills before murdering her. The police said the purpose of the man was to rape her. As he failed, he strangulated her to death and threw her body in a forest. The woman was also working as a labourer.
According to reports, 55-year-old Ishwar Singh Thakur, a resident of the Dhankhedi Chandbad area, lodged a complaint at the Mandi police station on April 20 that his wife, Lakshmi Bai Thakur, did not return home.
The police registered a missing person complaint. The body of the woman was found near the Parwari River in the Kalapeepal area in Shajapur district.
The body was identified as that of Lakshmi Bai. The police began to probe the case. The police gathered evidence from the spot where the body was found.
The police then identified the culprit as 55-year-old Premnarayan Mewada, a resident of Ratanpur Tumda.
When the police quizzed him, Premnarayan confessed to having committed the murder. He said that he had lured Lakshmi Bai in the name of arranging for more wages.
He made the woman sit on his motorcycle and took her to Khajuria village on the bank of the Parwati River.
He then gave her sleeping pills and tried to rape her. But as he did not succeed, he strangulated the woman to death. The culprit was presented to the court.
