Mumbai: A social worker from Malvani in Malad West, Mohammad Jameel Merchant, has lodged a formal police complaint against five individuals for allegedly sharing hateful and offensive content on social media platforms. According to Merchant, the accused uploaded videos that he claims are aimed at provoking communal disharmony and hurting the sentiments of a particular community.
Merchant said the posts had insulting comments about a respected person from the community. He believes they were shared on purpose to create tension between different groups. He also said such actions are harmful and could disturb peace in society, according to a report by the Times of India. In addition to filing the police complaint, Merchant has sent copies senior government officials, including the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister, urging them to take swift action.

Navi Mumbai: Woman Teacher Booked for Inappropriate Behaviour with Minor Student on Social Media
In a separate news story related to the social media crime a woman teacher from a private school in Navi Mumbai has been booked for allegedly engaging in inappropriate behaviour with a minor male student on social media, police said on Tuesday.
According to officials from the Koparkhairne police station, the student's father filed a complaint stating that the 35-year-old teacher had been chatting with his son on Instagram from Sunday evening until Monday morning, as reported by news agency PTI.
Navi Mumbai Teacher Booked Under POCSO For Inappropriate Behaviour With Student On Social MediaIn the complaint, the father alleged that the teacher was inappropriately dressed during the video chat and behaved in a manner considered harmful to the mental well-being of a child. The police said the teacher’s actions were potentially disturbing and unsuitable for minors.
Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered under Sections 11 and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, which deal with sexual harassment of minors. An investigation into the case is currently underway, the official added.
