The Pune City Traffic Police have launched an Artificial Intelligence-based traffic violation detection system to automatically identify and penalise violators on Fergusson College Road.

Introduced on an experimental basis, the system utilises AI-powered cameras to monitor key traffic offences such as illegal parking, wrong-side driving, etc.

This system enables authorities to take immediate action against violators without manual intervention, as it analyses live CCTV footage and generates real-time alerts.

Currently, four AI-powered cameras have been installed on FC Road on an experimental basis for 90 days. "We will analyse the data and propose further action," said an official.

Shivajinagar MLA Siddharth Shirole took to X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday and said this move would enhance road discipline and ensure safer, smoother travel.

He wrote, "An advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based camera system has been activated on Fergusson College Road to monitor and penalise traffic violations. With real-time detection and enforcement, this move aims to enhance road discipline and ensure safer, smoother travel on one of the city’s most congested routes."
