Edgbaston Test Update: On Day 2 of the second Test match between India and England at Edgbaston, young Indian skipper Shubman Gill stunned fans with a brilliant double century, helping India post a massive 587 runs in their first innings.
In addition to Gill, all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja (89) and Washington Sundar (42) also contributed significantly. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was close to his sixth Test century, missed it by just 13 runs, scoring 87.
After a disappointing lower middle-order collapse in the first Test, Shubman Gill took it upon himself to stabilize the team. He built a solid 203-run partnership with Jadeja for the sixth wicket and followed it with another 144-run stand with Sundar for the seventh.
India currently appears to be in a dominant position in this Test. However, amid this upbeat moment, a piece of news has left fans shocked. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly decided to call off an upcoming international tour.
Bangladesh Tour Under Threat, Not England SeriesAlthough many assumed it was the ongoing England series that might get canceled, the actual series under threat is the India vs Bangladesh ODI and T20 tour scheduled for August 2025.
Due to political instability and security concerns in Bangladesh, BCCI is reconsidering sending the team there. According to sources, the Indian board is not in favor of taking any risk with players' safety under current conditions in Bangladesh.
The series was supposed to begin on August 17, but there are now talks of rescheduling the matches to a later date, depending on further developments.
Awaiting Government ClearanceBCCI has officially sought clearance from the Government of India for this tour. As per an AFP report, the board is yet to receive a formal nod from the authorities. If the Indian government does not give timely approval, the entire tour might be postponed or canceled.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Aminul Islam has also stated that the situation around the India tour remains uncertain and dependent on bilateral coordination.
India-Bangladesh Relations Under StrainCurrently, diplomatic relations between India and Bangladesh are not stable. In August last year, a military coup in Bangladesh forced then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her family to take refuge in India. The interim Bangladeshi government has since been pressuring India to hand her over, but her current location remains undisclosed.
