Heart transplant is an operation in which a person's diseased or damaged heart is replaced with the heart of a healthy person. It is a life-saving procedure in some cases of advanced heart failure. It is needed when the heart stops working properly. In such a situation, a heart transplant is required. In case a person's heart is not functioning properly, his heart is removed and another healthy heart is implanted. For this, a donor is necessary. If the donor or his family agrees to donate the heart, then the heart can be transplanted into the sick person.

When it comes to transplant, sometimes it is a challenging task to bring the heart from one city to another in the right manner. In such a situation, the teamwork of doctors, police, traffic police and health workers is extremely challenging. The heart is brought to a safe place by covering a longer distance in less time. That is why there is a need to create a green corridor.

In this, the traffic is made one-way. That is, normal vehicles or people are not allowed to come on the way of the green corridor. Without the green corridor, it is not possible to bring the heart back safely. Such a miraculous moment was seen in Delhi on Sunday, which showed the tremendous teamwork of humanity, medical science and traffic police.

Heart was transported from Ghaziabad to Delhi in 19 minutes

On 1 June 2025, a live heart was transported from Ghaziabad to Fortis Escorts Hospital in Okhla, Delhi in just 19 minutes. By creating a green corridor, the heart was transported from NCR to Delhi by covering a distance of 17 km in just 19 minutes and the team of doctors successfully transplanted the heart. Currently, the patient's condition is stable and he is under the doctor's supervision. Let's know what is heart transplant and why it is necessary.

49 year old patient got a new life

A 49-year-old patient was suffering from a serious disease called ischemic cardiomyopathy for a long time. This disease occurs when the heart does not get enough blood and the heart muscles become weak. The patient was registered with the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) since last August and was waiting for a suitable donor, but the patient was not getting the right donor. In such a situation, the family of a brain dead woman decided to donate the heart.

35 year old woman gave new life

The donor of this life saving heart was a 35 year old woman who was declared brain dead. She died due to cerebral blood vessel rupture. Her family decided to donate the heart, giving new hope to many lives. This heart was allotted to Fortis Escorts by NOTTO.

An example of speed, timing and traffic control

The heart was transported from Yashoda Hospital in Ghaziabad to Fortis Escorts, Okhla Road. The distance was about 17 kilometers and the timing was set from 11:40 am to 11:59 am, meaning the heart had to be transported safely from one place to another in just 19 minutes. The traffic police of Delhi and Ghaziabad showed excellent coordination and cleared the entire route so that not even a moment was wasted.

A unique blend of humanity

Dr. Vikram Agarwal, Facility Director, Fortis Escorts, Okhla Road, said, We are grateful to the Delhi and Ghaziabad traffic police for making this mission successful on time. Also, we would like to thank the donor family whose generosity made this possible. This is an example of how medical science and humanity can work wonders together.
