Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh) | An unoccupied coach of a train under maintenance caught fire in Tirupati railway station on Monday, which was doused immediately, said a railway official.
The fire occurred at around 2 pm and there was no human injury or loss of life, the official said.
"Just one coach caught fire around 2 pm. It was controlled very fast. The fire brigade came and controlled it immediately," the official told PTI, adding that the cause of the fire will be ascertained after an enquiry.
Meanwhile, a release from the South Central Railway (SCR) Zone identified the train as Hisar-Tirupati Special (Train Number 04717).
"There is an incident reported in Train No. 04717 Hisar - Tirupati Special Train while taking this empty train into the stabling yard. During the shunting process, a fire was noticed in one general coach and was immediately isolated from the rest of the coaches and fire was dozed (doused)," the release said.
Necessary fire-fighting measures were carried out by the fire brigade team and further investigation into the cause of the incident is being done, said the railway zone.
Further, it said that there was no disruption to train movement in Tirupati Railway Station.
