Gardeners troubled by pesky weeds sprouting on their patios and driveways have a new trick to try out, courtesy of one expert's advice.
Harry Bodell, a garden enthusiast at PriceYourJob, recommends an eco-friendly alternative to "dehydrating weeds".
Bodell revealed: "Salt interferes with the weed's ability to absorb essential nutrients such as potassium, magnesium and calcium.
"The disruption in nutrient uptake weakens the plant's overall health, causing it to dry out from dehydration and die. The salt method prevents further growth of weeds, too."
As reported by Express.co.uk, Bodell added: "There are certain ions present in salt which can be toxic to plants when accumulated in high concentrations.
"[This can] interfere with natural processes such as photosynthesis, leading to cell damage and dehydration of the plant."

How to kill weeds with saltFor this handy solution, simply stir one part salt into two parts water until fully mixed.
Douse the troublesome weeds with your homemade salt mixture and leave it overnight.
By morning, the weed will be super easy to remove – including the root.
However, Bodell cautioned that salt "can also accumulate in sand and soil and affect the growth of other plants".
It's for this reason that salt should be used "sparingly and only on areas you wish to have no plants growing through".
Another eco-friendly method to remove weeds is to use boiling water.
This too, however, should be used cautiously as the hot water could also damage nearby plants.
