Glastonbury Festival 2025's opening ceremony was branded a 'flop' and a 'nightmare' by disappointed festival-goers. Fans of the festival said there was 'no sound' coming from the speakers during the highly anticipated opening ceremony at Pyramid Stage, leaving revellers feeling 'restless'.
People rushed to social media to tag the official Glasto page on X/Twitter and question what was happening during the 'embarrassing' set. One user said: "This #Glastonbury opening ceremony is embarrassing as f***," and another commented: "Is there meant to be no sound at the #Glastonbury2025 opening ceremony? Local regs? Crowds a bit restless at the back #Glastonbury."

One fan posted: "@glastonbury guessing you do know the speakers on Pyramid aren’t working tonight for the opening ceremony? Real shame, so much potential for an awesome night."
"Glastonbury opening ceremony was a nightmare," another festival-goer added. One wrote: "Not good from a sound standpoint. I think you have let the performers down here to say the least."
The festival is the biggest in the UK, featuring over 3,000 performances across more than 100 stages during the five-day event. The site on Worthy Farm in Pilton, Somerset, spans over 900 acres, and security has only increased over the years - which is allegedly more expensive than what is offered to the Royal Family.
Furthermore, the 7.8km fence surrounding the site is four metres high, and at various points, there are watchtowers, with security staff keeping a firm eye on the festival grounds both inside and outside.
Security is thought to have been heightened this year after thousands of people are said to have snuck into the festival last year with fake wristbands and or by vaulting the fences.
It got to a point where some stages had to close due to overcrowding. Anyone attempting to enter the festival without a proper ticket could see themselves spending time at the 'on-set jail'.
The 'Glastonbury Jail' is an official holding space before being evicted from the site or when police are called. While it's not technically a jail, many have referred to it as one.
One person caught last year spoke to The Times about the 'jail' and said: "The jail is a square with security fences surrounding it, a covered area for sitting and foil blankets which people were taking to sleep in."
Glastonbury is running from June 25 to June 29 this year with performances from the likes of US rapper Doechii, UK singer Raye and veteran rocker Sir Rod Stewart, who will be playing during the coveted legends slot. Also performing is Irish rap trio Kneecap and US star Gracie Abrams.
Festival-goers will even be relieved to hear there has been a wet weather U-turn and that sunshine is expected over the coming days. Showers had been originally forecast for Worthy Farm in Somerset, with festival goers warned to bring their wellies. However, they have now been advised to bring the sun cream instead.
