is certainly taking no chances when it comes to legally removing her estranged husband from her life. According to reports, the star, 65, who split with the GB News host in May last year has instructed solicitors to make sure Eamonn knows where he stands in relation to their former marital home.
The presenter, who was married to Eamonn for 14 years, has been granted a severance of joint tenancy of their £3.6 million home in Surrey, which they purchased back in 2014. This means that even if Ruth passes away, Eamonn will not be able to get his hands back on the property. Eamonn moved into a bachelor pad immediately after the split, before going public with his 43-year-old girlfriend Katie Alexander.
Explaining the details of a severance of joint tenancy, Sarah Dwight of the Law Society told The Sun: "There are different ways to own a property. You can do so as joint tenants, which means it is 50/50 split. If one partner dies the other automatically inherits the other’s share."
She added: "This applies even if one partner has left their share to children from a previous relationship — the other partner would still get it."
She continued: " One of the first things divorce lawyers do is to give their clients the option to sever the joint tenancy, so they can leave their share of the house to whoever they want."
Sarah then went on to say: "This move protects Ruth in that if she were to die, she can leave her wealth to whoever she wants, rather than Eamonn getting everything."
The couple first met in 1997 and at the time Eamonn was already a father from a previous marriage. In 2002, Ruth gave birth to their son named Jack and the pair tied the knot eight years later.
The famous duo would regularly present together and fast became fan favourites due to their infamous bickering and banter on screen.
And while their spats raised a few eyebrows from time to time, they were both quick to ensure that it came from a place of love.
But in May 2024, the couple shocked the when they released a statement that revealed they had decided to call time on their marriage. At the time, the joint statement simply read: "Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing."
Speculation over their marriage started to mount in the weeks before their shock announcement as they had not been pictured together in a while, or appeared on each other's social media pages.
At the time, an insider told The Sun: "They are determined to stay friends and keep things amicable." Eamonn has since moved on and is currently dating Katie Alexander, 43.
While they had done their best to remain respectful and keep a relatively low profile, the couple recently went official as they shared a reel from their day out at the park.
The reel showing them basking in the sun was accompanied by a song from The Levellers, What a Beautiful Day.
Representatives for both Eamonn and Ruth have been contacted for a comment.
