Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds paid an emotional tribute to Paul Mullin after the club confirmed his departure. Mullin has established himself as a club legend at Wrexham over the past four years, but has now been loaned out to Wigan for the upcoming season.
The 30-year-old striker has notched an impressive 110 goals in 172 games for the Welsh club since joining in 2021. He has been key to their climbing the divisions, having been top scorer in three of the last four campaigns.
However, he managed just five goals in 32 appearances last season as they achieved promotion from League One to the Championship.
Mullin started just nine league games following back surgery last summer and Wrexham have made the tough decision to move on ahead of what promises to be a challenging campaign in the Championship.
The £700,000 transfer for Plymouth striker Ryan Hardie was completed last week and Mullin has now moved to Wigan for the 2025/26 campaign. His departure tugged at the heart strings of Reynolds, who has enjoyed his goals over the past four years.

Writing on Instagram alongside a video of some of his most memorable moments, Reynolds said: “I can’t imagine seeing Mulls on loan and in another kit. We wouldn’t be where we are without his heart, skill and work ethic. We love you, Paul Mullin. SPM.”
Mullin replied with a heart emoji and added in his own post: “All the very best to everyone at Wrexham this season, keep the train rolling.”
Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson said: “I’d like to wish Paul all the best for his loan move. It’s a good opportunity for him to get back to playing regular first-team football and I’m sure he’s going to be a great signing for Wigan Athletic.”
Wrexham added in their club statement: “All at Wrexham AFC would like to wish Paul and the Latics the very best for the coming season.”
"I’m excited for the next part of my story,” Mullin said. “The gaffer has outlined his plan for the season, and I’m hoping to take his trust into the season and make it a really successful one.
“As a player, I give absolutely everything and work as hard as I can. I’ve scored a lot of goals over the last few years, but more than anything, I give my absolute all for the club that I’m playing for, and I’m going to do that again with Wigan."
Wigan manager Ryan Lowe added: “I am delighted that we’ve managed to sign Paul. He’ll be a great addition to the group and is a player who is a proven goal scorer in the EFL.
“He has won promotion in his last three seasons with Wrexham AFC and will add firepower, know-how and experience to the group, which is really important.
“He is here because he is hungry to score more goals, win games and contribute to Wigan Athletic Football Club. Paul is the type of character we want in the dressing room, and his experience will help support the team on and off the pitch.”
