A strange case has come to light from Prayagraj, UP. A student who had come to prepare for UPSC cut off his private part to change his gender. He was admitted to SRN Hospital in a critical condition. On receiving the news, his parents and relatives from Amethi also rushed to the hospital. The student says that he was constantly thinking that he was a girl. At present, his condition is out of danger.

According to the student, his body may be like that of a boy but his mannerisms and speech are like that of a girl. Gradually this feeling started dominating his mind. Meanwhile, he came in contact with a quack doctor of Katra locality of the city. Under his influence, last Tuesday he injected himself with anesthesia and cut his private part with a surgical blade. He also applied ointment and bandage himself. After 5-6 hours, his condition became very serious, so he called the landlord for help. He was first admitted to Tej Bahadur Sapru Hospital, then to SRN Hospital.

The only son of an elite farmer of Amethi

The competitive student is originally from Amethi. His father is an elite farmer and mother is a housewife. He is the only child of his parents. He did his graduation after completing his intermediate from CBSE board. He wants to become an IAS officer, so he has come to Prayagraj to prepare for the UPSC exam. He lives in a rented room in Naini area.

The boy could have even lost his life: Dr. Santosh Singh

Dr. Santosh Singh, surgeon and Motilal Nehru Medical College said that the student is probably suffering from gender identity disorder. He was brought here in a very critical condition. Now his condition is under control and he is out of danger. This case is very complicated and different in which the victim himself has taken dangerous steps. Life could have been lost in this. Medical counseling will be done after the boy recovers. The step taken by the boy has been taken under someone's influence, this comes under the legal process. It depends on the family what action they take further.

What is gender identity disorder?

According to Dr., generally this is also a mental illness which is called Gender Identity Disorder. In this, the boy thinks that he is a girl and the girl thinks that she is a boy. Sometimes cross thinking has also come to the fore. Many incidents of gender change have come to the fore, but it is a very complex and time-consuming process. It involves counseling for about 1 year. In most cases, the patient regains confidence. Still, if this process is adopted, then first counseling is done, then the consent of the patient and family, hormone therapy, then side effects etc. are studied.
