The warmth of India-France relations was once again visible during the ongoing 51st G-7 summit in Kananaskis, Canada. When Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron came face to face, the conversation started with warmth… both hugged each other and also laughed lightly. But after some time the mood of the conversation became serious.

This bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Modi and President Macron took place on the sidelines of the G-7. In this, the two leaders discussed many important issues, including sensitive topics like climate change, global security, technical cooperation, and the Israel-Iran war.

What did PM Modi say?

After meeting Macron, PM Modi wrote on the social media platform X,

'It is always pleasant to talk with President Emmanuel Macron. We shared views on many global issues. India and France will continue to work together in the interest of the earth.'

Strength of the India-France partnership
This meeting was not just a formality, but also a symbol of strong strategic relations between India and France. According to sources, PM Modi and Macron also had serious discussions on strengthening the voice of the 'Global South', maintaining stability in the Indo-Pacific region, and cooperation in the field of clean energy.

What happened in the Israel-Iran war?

Although Ukraine and the global economy were major issues on the agenda of the G-7 summit, this time the shadow of the ongoing war between Israel and Iran was also clearly felt. The leaders of the world's 7 major democratic countries were seen discussing this crisis at a personal level.

Sources said that PM Modi shared India's balanced and humanitarian thinking with Macron on this subject. He made it clear that all parties should exercise restraint and move towards a solution through diplomacy instead of violence.

The next G7 meeting will be held in France.

President Macron announced during this time that the 2026 G-7 summit will be held in the French city of Avion. This is the same historic city where the 'Avian Agreement' was signed in 1962, which gave independence to Algeria.

Although this meeting between PM Modi and Macron started in a friendly manner, the issues discussed were serious. On this platform of global diplomacy, India once again made it clear that it is not just a spectator but an active, responsible, and balancing force. This dialogue between India and France shows that both countries are ready to play a meaningful role together even on the most complex geopolitical crises of the world.
