The buzz around War 2 is getting louder by the day, and now even before its theatrical release, the film has made headlines for minting money. Starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, this highly anticipated sequel to 2019’s blockbuster War has already earned a massive ₹80 crore from the sale of its Telugu theatrical rights.
According to a report by Gulte, producer Naga Vamsi’s Sithara Entertainment has acquired the distribution rights for the Telugu-speaking states. Interestingly, Yash Raj Films had initially planned to manage the film’s release in that region on their own. However, considering Jr NTR's massive popularity in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, YRF chose to partner with a local distributor to maximise the film’s reach and box office pull in the South.
Reports suggest that the makers initially quoted ₹100 crore for the rights, but the final deal was closed at ₹80 crore — still an impressive number for a Hindi-language action film in the Telugu market. This isn’t Sithara Entertainment’s first big bet on Jr NTR either. They earlier acquired the rights to his upcoming film Devara for ₹120 crore.
War 2 is set to release in theatres on 14 August 2025, right before Independence Day. The film is not just a sequel to War but also a significant part of YRF’s ambitious Spy Universe, which includes hits like Pathaan and Tiger 3. The film also stars Kiara Advani in a pivotal role.
YRF released the teaser of War 2 as a birthday gift for Jr NTR on May 20. The teaser, along with character posters of Hrithik, NTR, and Kiara, has further fuelled fan excitement. The action-packed face-off between Hrithik’s Kabir and Jr NTR’s character is expected to be one of the film’s biggest highlights.
With the kind of early traction War 2 is generating — both in terms of money and hype — expectations are sky-high, and it’s already shaping up to be one of the biggest releases of the year.
