India will mark the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel with a two-year-long nationwide celebration from 2024 to 2026. Known as the "Iron Man of India," Patel played a crucial role in India's struggle for independence and the integration of its states post-independence. His legacy as a unifying force continues to inspire generations.
Patel's birth anniversary, observed on October 31 every year as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas or National Unity Day, honors his efforts in building a united India. He was instrumental in merging over 500 princely states into the Indian Union, ensuring the country’s territorial integrity.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in a message on X (formerly Twitter), announced, “Sardar Patel Ji's enduring legacy as the visionary behind one of the world’s most robust democracies and his pivotal role in unifying India from Kashmir to Lakshadweep remains indelible. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the government will commemorate Patel’s 150th birth anniversary with a two-year celebration, highlighting his remarkable achievements and the spirit of unity he embodied.”
The grand celebrations are expected to include various programs and initiatives aimed at remembering and honoring Sardar Patel’s invaluable contributions to the nation.
