Jharkhand Assembly Polls 2024: Constitutional institutions working on behalf of BJP: Hemant Soren

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren accused constitutional institutions of acting on behalf of the BJP and claimed they have become “puppets” of the central government. Speaking at a rally in Garhwa district to launch his campaign for the upcoming assembly elections, Soren emphasized that this election is crucial for the rights and dignity of the state's residents.

He expressed concern that the elections were announced prematurely, stating that his government was not given the opportunity to complete its full term. Polling for the 81-member assembly will take place on November 13 and November 20, with the results scheduled to be announced on November 23.

“It is not hidden from anyone that the constitutional institutions are working for the BJP and have become puppets of the central government. Voices raised against the BJP are being suppressed by them. I am a living example of this,” Soren said while campaigning for JMM candidate Mithilesh Kumar Thakur in Garhwa town. He claimed to have faced harassment for two years due to unfounded allegations, adding, “When I was working for the people of my state, they framed me with false charges and put me behind bars.”

Soren affirmed that he would not yield to any power and declared, “No one can stop us until we fulfill our commitment to the development of Jharkhand.”

On the same day, Jharkhand minister Mithilesh Kumar Thakur submitted his nomination for the Garhwa assembly seat. Approximately 2.60 crore voters, including 11.84 lakh first-time voters, along with individuals with disabilities, third-gender persons, and seniors over 85, are eligible to vote this year, an increase from 2.23 crore in the 2019 assembly elections.
