Whether it's music or podcasts, the right soundtrack makes exercise and commuting that bit easier. A good pair of wireless earbuds is a practical way to enjoy favourite albums and captivating stories on the go - but not if they're a poor fit. Open-ear designs aim to remove that problem entirely, sitting securely on the outer ear to deliver clear sound without coming loose.
Currently, Argos is selling the JLab Epic Open Sport in-ear true wireless earbuds for just £39.99. That's half their usual £79.99 price tag.
These compact earbuds are designed to provide the perfect blend of sound quality and comfort thanks to their open design that rests comfortably in the ear. According to the brand, the 14.2mm speakers can reproduce frequencies up to 50kHz with low distortion for a superior listening experience.
This open design also means the earbuds are safer, as the wearer can enjoy music, podcasts, and audiobooks without blocking out their surroundings. They're ideal for exercise too, thanks to IP55 water resistance that blocks out sweat, rain, and dirt.
For a budget pick, shoppers could consider the Soundcore P20i wireless earbuds, which are currently £16.99 down from £29.99 at Amazon. These earbuds are equipped with 10mm drivers the brand says deliver powerful sound with boosted bass, and there are 22 EQ presets to personalise the sound.
Those requiring noise cancelling could opt for the JBL Tune Beam 2 wireless earbuds currently half price at Currys for £39.99. The built-in Adaptive Noise Cancelling can tune out background noise, while Ambient Aware and TalkThru modes let the user maintain awareness of their surroundings.
As for the JLab earphones, many buyers are pleased with their purchases. One left a review: "Easy a fan of earbuds or headphones, but these are a gamechanger. They fit securely and comfortably over the ear, even with spectacles, and deliver superb sound quality without the muffled feeling you get with headphones.
"No 'in-ear earbud pain' either. There are tiny buttons to adjust volume, skip tracks and take calls, all built into each unit. Easy to pair via Bluetooth. The case is also the charging unit, which will operate either wired (USB-C) or wireless. Superb product."
A second customer said: "The JLab Epic Open Sport earbuds have been a breath of fresh air. They don't sit deep in my ears, which makes them super comfortable and lets me enjoy my music while still staying aware of what's happening around me.
"They're perfect for jogging outside or doing indoor workouts, and the earhooks keep them secure so they don't slip off, even when I'm moving a lot. The battery life is amazing too - up to 30 hours - so I never have to stress about constantly charging them."
A third chimed in: "Attractive ear phones with a nice case. Great battery life. You can customise your sound settings. They stay in place whilst running or doing activities and are very comfortable to wear. Clear sound and noise cancelling mic."
One customer was a big fan of the earbuds, but did note the battery life was less than expected as part of a longer review: "The reason I've given 4 stars though is the battery life wasn't fantastic, it didn't seem to last the whole seven hours as stated. It had about 3.5-4 hours' usage before needing to be charged again. Apart from that small issue, I'd say if you're looking for a cheaper alternative to the others, these are a fantastic option."
Another customer left feedback as part of a longer four-star review, saying: "Very impressed with how secure these earbuds are and how well they stay in place. Tried them running, walking and weight lifting and stayed in place well. Comfortable fit. Sound quality is very good as well, and clear. It has three customisations you can apply to change the sound. The only reason for 4 stars is the touch controls are a bit hit and miss."
The JLab Epic Open Sport in-ear wireless earbuds are available from Argos for £39.99.
