Fans of Coronation Street have expressed their dismay about a current storyline that appears to be forcing Abi Webster (played by Sally Carmichael) into the arms of her brother-in-law, Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard), as her husband Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) continues to lie about having cancer despite being given the all-clear on the ITV soap.
Taking to X, they vented their anger and concerns. "Kevin is a piece of trash, but that doesn't mean Abi should go to bed with Carl; the guy is a big red flag who will break her heart. Save tweet. #Corrie," one wrote. Another penned: "Kevin should never have lied to Abi - just because he's got doubts over his relationship #Corrie." A third fumed about the storyline, commenting: "Kevin lying about his cancer isn't a great storyline tbh. #Corrie." A fourth agreed writing: "Lowest of the low. Kevin faking his chemo treatment just to keep trout mouth? Just disgusting. #corrieFans."
Kevin discovered he had the all clear following treatment for prostate cancer, but, feeling insecure in his relationship with his wife Abi, he told her he needed further treatment.
She is oblivious to his lie and determined to stand by him through his treatment; however, his secret was almost blown when his brother Carl, who has been flirting with Abi for weeks, saw the couple in Roy's Rolls and asked him how he was.
Kevin told his sibling he had the all-clear, and Carl congratulated him, saying it was "cracking stuff". Abi was visibly fuming.
When a green tea was brought to the table for Kevin, he questioned it, asking, "Since when are you drinking green tea?" Kevin responded, "Health sick." This led Carl to joke, "Are you still working on that summer bod?"
Abi couldn't help herself and snapped back, "Not funny." Oblivious to the tension, Carl joked to Kevin, "Hey, you might be cancer-free, but how come you still don't like death warmed up?"
This led Abi to snipe: "He's not cancer free you moron." when Carl questioned this Kevin told him: "It's just a bit more chemo. It's always no big deal."
Before Carl could ask any more questions, Kevin and Abi left, leaving a bemused Carl in their wake. The mechanic said, "I don't feel great. Can we go?"
Abi and Carl have been fighting their feelings for each other since his arrival, but with Kevin's lie getting bigger and bigger, it is sure to be found out soon. Will they find themselves thrust together when he is exposed?
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV at 8pm.
