A British man has been shot dead in Ghana, with police launching an urgent hun for gunmen who fled the robbery scene on motorbikes. The 68-year-old was at a bar opposite the Tema Community 9 cemetery on Friday with a group. Six men then approached and tried to steal his mobile phone, according to the ongoing investigation.
The Brit attempted to grab his phone back, but was then shot by one of the suspects before they all fled the scene on motorbikes. He was rushed to the Tema General Hospital, but sadly was pronounced dead shortly after.
The Tema Regional Police Command is now conducting an urgent manhunt to track down the suspects and has been interviewing eye-witnesses.
Officers recovered a 9mm spent shell from the scene and sent it to be analysed for evidence.
Police said: "Two of the assailants approached the group, and one of them snatched the victim's mobile phone from the table.
"When the victim attempted to retrieve his phone, one of the suspects shot, and the gang fled the scene on their motorbikes.
"The Tema Regional Police Command has launched a full-scale operation to track down the perpetrators.
"Efforts are ongoing to contact the British Embassy to officially notify them of the death of their national.
"The Command assures the public that every effort is being made to arrest the suspects and bring them to justice."
