Lots of people are starting to think about jetting off on . After all, the is starting to get better, summer is nearing closer and many are keen for a break away in the sun. However, even though many people look forward to a holiday, sometimes there are still some tasks you have to do when abroad - this involves visiting a pharmacy for some people. If you often stop by a pharmacy on your travels, there's something important you need to know, according to an online guru. The vlogger, known as the knightstrider1 on , shared some vital advice.
In , he said something has been raised as a bit of an issue that's confusing people. While he admitted there are a lot of pharmacies in Tenerife, he also noted there are many parapharmacies too.
He said people need to understand the difference between the two, as they aren't the same. For example, in his experience, he says many parapharmacies can often offer herbal alternatives to medicines.
In Tenerife, he says you need to look out for the pharmacies with an "F", spelt Farmacia. While he said there's nothing wrong with getting the herbal alternatives if you prefer, he just wants people to know there's a difference.
He added: "So many people come in and complain because the shop didn't make it clear to them, the shop didn't really tell them. So just bear in mind there are pharmacies and there are parapharmacies."
Several people have viewed the video since it was posted, and they were quick to comment too. They shared all sorts of thoughts and ideas.
One said: "I sent my other half to go and get Calpol for my son with a ear infection. I wondered why he came back with huge herbal pills for him to swallow. I thought surely you can get Calpol in Tenerife."
Another added: "Yes, happened to me." A third replied: "This happened to me. My throat was bad. When I got home, I went to the doctor and turned out I had strep throat and got antibiotics."
Meanwhile, a fourth also commented: "Yes, happened to me. Never again." One more chimed in with: "Great advice."
In Tenerife, "parapharmacies" are called "parafarmacias". They are known for selling many health and beauty products, as well as cosmetics and personal care items. They are separate from traditional pharmacies ("farmacias") that primarily offer prescription medications.
Parapharmacies offer a wide range of products from sunscreens and beauty products to vitamins and nutritional supplements. However, if you visit one, you won't be able to access prescription medications.
You may also pick up cosmetic products such as makeup, perfumes and skincare. Other items such as bath and body products may also be available.
The shops also offer health supplements like vitamins, minerals and other supplements. Sometimes they also sell products for babies such as nappies and lotions.
While the advice issued relates to Tenerife, parapharmacies can also be found in other countries such as France. This is why it's always best to know the difference between the two.
Both options are useful, but people need to know that they offer very different things. This is what the travel guru wants people to learn.
