Emmerdale's Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) left fans stunned after she kissed her ex- fiancée Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick). Charity previously agreed to be her granddaughter Sarah Sugden's (Katie Hill) surrogate, but discovered bleeding after suffering a fall. Charity's pregnancy test came back negative and she later clashed with Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb), who suggested "everything happens for a reason".
Charity accused her husband of being relieved that she wasn't pregnant and kicked him out. Their argument turned explosive once again, after Charity blamed Mack for dragging her out to the woods where she experienced the fall. At the Woolpack, Vanessa found Charity drowning her sorrows and offered to take her home. It was here that Charity kissed her ex. She woke up with a sore head during Friday night's episode, and decided against telling Mack the truth.
Vanessa later urged her to come clean to Mack, noting that everything comes out in the end. But Vanessa's mind was changed after an interaction with Sarah, who admitted she couldn't cope if the surrogacy came at the expense of their marriage.
She managed to convince Charity to not tell Mack, leading the couple to share a heartfelt hug at the end of the episode. But viewers appeared more distracted by the recent news that Mack is going to meet a grisly end at the hands of John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth).
It has been claimed Mack will get closer to learning the truth about villain John and will "ultimately lose his life in dark and tense episodes".
The news comes after it was teased that "life-changing" scenes were set to unfold for Mackenzie and his best friend Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller), John's husband.
Reacting to the news online, one wrote: "I don't want this.. I really liked Mack..," alongside two heartbroken emojis.
Another echoed: "Before anyone celebrates Mack's death can we fucking remember that he is moira's baby brother like I know he's hated but had she not been through enough like and him getting killed by John when he's one of the only ones to see through him THIS IS NOT THE WAY IT ENDS."
A third fumed: "I hate that ED is killing off Mack. I didn't see him for long, but I liked him. And why are they doing this to Aaron again? Him losing someone else he loves to death? REALLY??? Why? It's too much. and it's going to scar him even more, esp if he somehow sees it happen."
Another demanded: "Oh no. Just seen the spoiler. I love Mack. Don't kill him off!!!"
