For many the long overdue news that the (former) Duke of York had opted to fall on his sword by finally relinquishing all of his remaining titles and honours was greeted with great pleasure. This was reportedly done at the behest of His Majesty the King, although many believe it was the Prince of Wales who was calling the shots. Hazza and Megs BEWARE! Included in the list of forfeited titles and honours is the Knight of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, which is an order of chivalry founded by King Edward III of England in 1348.
In addition, Andy's Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order (GCVO) which recognises distinguished personal service to the monarch, also got binned. It is fair comment to say that Andy has neither the qualities of chivalry, nor has he distinguished himself with any demonstrably personal service to the Monarch of late. In fact, quite the opposite.
Most of Andrew's life has been an all-consuming self-indulgence but the continuation of his friendship with paedophile Jeffrey Epstein beyond the point at which he publicly claimed was a killer blow to his reputation.
There have been many reports of Andrew humiliating, belittling and degrading people. Rumours have swirled for years about Andy's capacity for self-indulgence and entitlement but many were left feeling they could only shrug their shoulders at his antics.
Andrew was untouchable for easily understandable reasons, which he clearly felt he was entitled to exploit to the full as and when the mood took him.
On a human level and under any other circumstances very few people who hold such extreme feelings of entitlement would be tolerated and society at large has a funny habit of levelling a playing field.
And the loss of his titles does level the playing field somewhat, with the sheer scale of the brouhaha surrounding it being enough to make one giddy.
Now we come to the matter of Fergie. She has been divorced from Andy for years yet she has appeared quite happy to cohabit with him for much of that time. This would suggest that they were and remain ideally suited, at least as friends.
She's badly damaged goods too!
Fergs was a clown of the first order over the notorious topless cavorting and toe sucking and shouldn't have been so overtly complicit in hijinks of this nature regardless of the fact that she and Andy had separated.
Then there was Fergie's cash for access to Andy scandal. Then Ferguson's receipt of £15,000 from Epstein to help her manage her debts.
One also has to ask what in the world the former Yorks do rattling around in a 30-bedroom mansion, Royal Lodge Windsor? And now we hear ZERO rent has been paid by Andrew for 22 years.
To add insult to injury it will cost the Crown Estate half a million quid IF he decides to leave, which he has made very clear that he will NOT any time soon!
One of the many tragedies of course is that Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie have had to put up with these shameful antics, neither one of them in anyway deserving of suffering.
Their uncle and the wider family will offer a solid base of support, but Andrew would do himself a huge favour and might even salvage some self-respect if he downsized and fell in with the King's wishes.
Wishful thinking, don't you agree, Possums?
All in all the downfall of Andy and Fergie is welcome news and one hopes they will just quietly disappear. Good riddance, wouldn't you say?
