With on hiatus, devotees of the series are finding comfort in re-watching earlier seasons.
Despite the deep love between Jamie (portrayed by ) and Claire Fraser (), there remained a significant issue that the 20th-century doctor found difficult to broach with her Highlander spouse.
Claire was hesitant to open up about her first husband Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies) to Jamie, despite being married to Frank before her unexpected journey through time.
On the Outlander podcast, executive producers Ronald D. Moore and Toni Graphia discussed this particular source of tension within the couple's relationship.
The pair delved into the emotional distance between Jamie and Claire after she managed to confide in Master Raymond (Dominique Pinon) about Frank during the show's second season, reports the .
Graphia remarked: "Claire, ironically, there's not anyone she can talk to really about Frank, especially Jamie. Even though Jamie knows about Frank, she's worried about him."
She continued: "We felt it was important to show she loved Frank once, she's concerned about him.
"He's on her mind and Master Raymond becomes her confidant, and I love that when she starts to talk to Master Raymond about him, it builds a friendship between them."
Moore chimed in: "I don't think this was in the book."
Graphia revealed: "No, actually this was your idea. I had in the first draft, he read her astrological chart, which actually made no sense because she wasn't born in the year that she tells him she's born in.
"He gleaned there was something off about her because she lied and it doesn't add up."
In the pivotal scene, Claire finds herself confronting Master Raymond following her poisoning incident, determined to uncover who was responsible.
Amidst her visit to the apothecary, Claire confides her worries about Frank, eager to find out what has become of her first husband since she vanished.

To Claire's astonishment, Master Raymond predicts that she will indeed encounter Frank again.
The second season's debut episode confirmed Claire's eventual return to Frank in the 20th century.
Graphia described the apothecary moment as a "nice Easter egg" hinting at the future reconciliation between Claire and Frank.
Claire's bond with Master Raymond grew stronger when he presented her with a unique necklace that reacted to poison, fortifying their trust.
Master Raymond's significance in Claire's life amplified when he saved her during the devastating loss of baby Faith, narrowly escaping death.
Furthermore, Claire later played a crucial role in rescaving him from execution when he was apprehended by the king on sorcery charges.
