Poundland is closing more stores as the company undergoes a radical restructuring, with 12 stores across the UK closing today. Over the past few months, Poundland stores across the country have shut as new owners aim to save the retailer. A staggering 48 Poundland stores are set to shut for good this month, following a slew of closures that have been happening in towns and cities across the UK throughout the year so far.
25 of its branches have already closed this month, with today's 12 bringing the number to 37 stores closed in August so far. There are 800 Poundland stores in the UK, but this is set to be reduced to as few as 650 as part of a major overhaul of the brand. The future of the discount retail chain faces a High Court hearing on its restructuring plans, which is scheduled for August 26. Poundland was purchased by investment firm Gordon Brothers in June, and plans were quickly put together in regards to its restructuring.
The Poundland stores closing today are:
- Brigg
- Canterbury
- Coventry
- Newcastle
- Kings Heath
- Peterborough
- Peterlee
- Rainham
- Salford
- Sheldon
- Wells
- Whitechapel
Additionally, 11 more Poundland stores are set to close on August 31. They include Blackburn, Cookstown, Kettering, Omagh, Shepherd's Bush and Southport.

The company's planned restructuring also includes the closure of its frozen and digital distribution centre in Darton, South Yorkshire, later this year, as well as the closure of its national distribution centre in Bilston, West Midlands, in early 2026.
The Darton closure means that online shopping and frozen food would no longer be available for Poundland customers. Poundland previously said in a statement that it is "working very hard behind the scenes to simplify and refocus our stores".
They said: "And that means very soon there'll be even more ranges at £1 and new items to choose from each week, but unfortunately, we will no longer be providing an online delivery service from September 16, 2025."
By October of this year, 68 Poundland stores will have closed. Further closures are expected when existing leases end and are not renewed. Additionally, the Perks app will close on September 16, but reward vouchers will still be valid in-store until January 15 next year.
