Giving your oven a good clean is one of those chores that's too easy to put off, until suddenly you're confronted with a grimy glass door, baked-on grease stains and a layer of something unidentifiable lurking on the racks. While there are many oven cleaning sprays and pastes in the supermarket, they are expensive and full of nasty, toxic chemicals - plus, they don't always do the best job. Enter a wonderous cleaning multi-tool, in the form of a steam cleaner.
Cleaning enthusiast and fun-loving home hacks lover Carolina McCauley has taken to her Instagram @carolina.mccauley to share the most "effortless" way to clean an oven using a steam cleaner. She said, "Cleaning the oven doesn't have to be a nightmare. My steam cleaner makes it so much easier. The high heat loosens all the baked-on grease and grime, so I don't have to scrub for hours or use harsh oven chemicals.
"Honestly, it's one of my favourite ways to deep clean... quick, effective, and super satisfying."
In her Instagram video, she urged, "Don't even think about scrubbing your oven until you see this.
Explaining how it works, Carolina said, "Steam loosens years of buildup effortlessly. High heat lifts grime without scrubbing.
"No harsh chemicals near your food. Reaches corners, sprays can't touch. Just water and heat." She recommends carrying out this method "monthly" for "easier maintenance".
With many modern ovens featuring a built-in steam cleaning function, it's clear that steam cleaning works to make oven messes softer and easier to wipe away without the need for harsh chemical cleaners.
While the cleaner assured her followers that the steam "loosens years of buildup", a neglected oven that produces smoke and odours, or has layers of spills and splatters, may require additional cleaning.
In this case, baking soda is a great natural product to cut through grease and grime fast. Its abrasive nature is effective at removing those stuck-on pieces of food.
