Ruben Amorim 'plots surprise Man Utd dynamic duo' after two major transfer decisions

Manchester United are in hot pursuit of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, which has cast Rasmus Hojlund's future at the club into serious uncertainty. The 22-year-old was one of many United players to endure a dismal 2024/25 season, regressing from his maiden campaign as he scored just four Premier League goals.

Ruben Amorim's focus on attacking recruitment this summer speaks volumes, with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo arriving from Wolves and Brentford, respectively. Beyond that £133.5million spend on Premier League proven quality, United are now extending their search for upgrades across the continent.

Sesko is yet to decide between the Red Devils and Newcastle United, who are said to be ready to meet his salary demands and Leipzig's asking price of a guaranteed £64m.

Should he opt for Old Trafford over the allure of Champions League football on Tyneside, the Slovenia international would be arriving as Amorim's first-choice frontman.

That all-but boots Hojlund out of the door, no? Well, perhaps not. According to The Sun, Amorim is cooking up a plan that involves both this term.

It is claimed that Hojlund can mature into a top-class alternative striker option as a result of stern competition from Sesko, also 22.

Amorim is said to understand that the Danish star's public frustration about his lack of striker support since joining in 2023 is justified.

The Portuguese head coach would, therefore, prefer Hojlund to stay put rather than depart on loan or permanently.

And while the final decision would ultimately come down to United's current No. 9, he has made no secret of his intention to fight for his place.

After scoring in Thursday's 4-1 friendly win against Bournemouth in Chicago, Hojlund said: "I think my plan is very clear and that is for me to stay and fight for my spot, whatever happens."

The report adds that while he is keen to retain the £72m struggler, Amorim is confident he can replicate his success with Viktor Gyokeres should Sesko arrive.

He helped Gyokeres develop into one of the world's most prolific strikers at Sporting, and there is a belief that Sesko can follow a similar path.

Amorim is said to believe that the Bundesliga man is capable of being the "dynamite" that takes United to the next level.

Hojlund will be confident that he can follow the same trajectory once he receives the competition he has longed for.
