The Boys actor Jensen Ackles has labelled it a "bummer" that his latest Prime Video drama has been axed. Crime thriller Countdown made its debut in June, following LAPD officer Mark Meachum (played by Jensen Ackles) who joins a secret task force to investigate a suspicious murder. He soon discovers a sinister plot which leads to Mark and the rest of the team doing everything they can in a bid to save millions of lives in the city.
The 13-episode run came to an end in September and despite finishing on a major cliffhanger, it has since been confirmed that Countdown won't be back for a second season. Leading man Ackles took to Instagram to express his disappointment at the thriller not returning for more.
Ackles shared: "As some of you may have seen already, Countdown did not get picked up for another season.
"Amazon's gonna let it go, and it's a bummer because I had such an amazing time making that show. Had an absolute blast with the cast and the crew."
Ackles continued: "Sometimes you can set out to do your best and check all those boxes, and ultimately it's out of your hands.
"That's the way it goes in this industry. That's the end for Mark Meachum.... But I'm thankful for the experience. We'll see you down the road on something else, I guess."

The finale ended with Agent Amber (Jessica Camacho) forced to run through a field while a trained sniper tried to shoot her.
Now knowing that there won't be anymore episodes, fans have since taken to X, formerly Twitter, to express their frustrations.
Referring to Amber, someone posted: "She helped essentially save his life, unfortunately we won't get too see him save hers. It's not fair."
Another shared: "Countdown was truly a breath of fresh air for me. New characters to love, new stories to follow, and overall had great potential. Amazon truly made a mistake canceling a show that was in the top 10 for its entire run and beyond."
While a third wrote: "I'm still very disappointed with @PrimeVideo 's decision to cancel #Countdown.
"Seriously, the show is clearly unfinished; they could have renewed it for at least one more season so Derek Haas could wrap up all the storylines."
Countdown is available to watch on Prime Video.
