Bombay High Court Grants Bail To Underworld Gangster Chhota Rajan In 2001 Jaya Shetty Murder Case

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday suspended the sentence of gangster Rajendra Sadashiv Nikalje alias Chhota Rajan and granted him bail in the 2001 murder case of hotelier Jaya Shetty. The special MCOCA Court convicted Rajan along with others on May 30 this year and sentenced him to life imprisonment. A special judge for cases under the Maharashtra Control Of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), AM Patil, held Rajan guilty under the Indian Penal Code provisions for murder. Jaya Shetty owned the Golden Crown Hotel at Gamdevi in central Mumbai. He was facing extortion threats from the Chhota Rajan gang and was shot dead by two alleged members of the gang on the hotel's first floor on May 4, 2001.The hotelier had been provided police protection after he reported receiving extortion threats from the Chhota Rajan gang. However, his security was withdrawn at his request, two months before the attack.

The family of the 17-year-old accused in the Pune car crash has a connection with the underworld, Times Now had learnt. The grandfather of the accused, sources in CBI said, took the help of underworld don Chhota Rajan regarding the property dispute with his brother in 2008-09. On May 19, the teenager allegedly drove his Porsche at around 200 kmph in Kalyani Nagar area of the city and knocked down and killed two IT professionals in their 20s on a motorbike. Shortly before the accident, the teenager partied with his friends at a local club and consumed alcohol.The CBI, in its chargesheet, claimed that the teenager's grandfather, Surendra Kumar Aggarwal, met Chhota Rajan's special henchman in Bangkok for help regarding a property dispute. Who Was Jaya Shetty ? The owner of the Golden Crown Hotel, Jaya Shetty, was murdered on May 4, 2001. Shetty had faced extortion threats from the Chhota Rajan gang. The fatal attack on Shetty occurred when two purported members of the Chhota Rajan gang shot him dead on his hotel's first floor.
