Manali-Leh link reopens after 46-day clearup

Send Push
SHIMLA: The 428km Manali-Leh high altitude highway reopened Tuesday after a gap of over five months. The highway is closed every year during the winter months as travel on this road becomes dangerous due to snowfall.

Border Roads Organisation (BRO) took 46 days to clear up the highway and restore it from Atal Tunnel's north portal to Sarchu, the last border point of Himachal. Snow walls as high as 30-40ft had to be brought down. The high mountain passes Taglang La (5,328m), Nakee La (4,739m), Lachung La (5,059m), and Baralacha La (4,850m) on the highway were also cleared.
