Guwahati: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma participated in the 11th International Day of Yoga event at Salbari in Assam's Baksa district, in the once Bodo-insurgency-affected Bodoland Territorial Council region, on Saturday.
After the inauguration of the state-level celebration of yoga day in Guwahati in 2015, the event was held in different districts in subsequent years. Sarma remarked on the significance of Salbari as the venue this year, observing its transition from a region once affected by conflict during the Bodo movement to now being emblematic of Bodoland's improved conditions & administrative stability.
"I am so happy that this year, the state-level event of yoga day is being organised here in Salbari. Hopefully, this will give a new dimension to yoga practice in the state. But organising the main event here in Salbari bears another significance. The celebration of yoga day here among the people of this region, who spent days during the Bodo movement amid violent conflict and mental suppression, reflects the change in atmosphere in Bodoland," said Sarma, while taking part in the event held at the Salbari College playground in Baksa.
The event was jointly organised by the National AYUSH Mission, Assam, the Bodoland Territorial Council, and the Baksa district administration, and centred on the theme ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health'.
Sarma said the event not only celebrates yoga but also symbolises the region's resilience and renewal. He highlighted the rising number of visitors to Manas National Park in the area and affirmed that Salbari is poised for a new chapter of development. "Fifteen to 20 years ago, no govt perhaps could have imagined organising such an event in Salbari," he said.
Assam governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya took part in the yoga festivities held by the Sports Authority of India, Regional Centre, jointly with Kreeda Bharati in Guwahati.
