Madikeri: A wild elephant attacked a van near Anekad forest depot on Kushalnagar-Madikeri Road on Sunday night.
Sharif, who hails from Hubballi, sustained injuries in the attack. He was driving the van with his family from Madikeri towards Mysuru. On spotting the jumbo crossing the road, he stopped the van. Suddenly, the elephant attacked the van. Sharif suffered injuries on his head and hands, according to officials. His wife and children were in the vehicle but luckily escaped with minor injuries.
Former ZP member PM Latif, who was on his way from Kushalnagar to Suntikoppa, saw the injured and immediately shifted them to the community health centre in Kushalnagar in his vehicle. Officials concerned visited the hospital and enquired about his condition. Sharif, who was administered first aid, later left for his hometown.
