Teen held with ganja worth Rs 29k in Bhadravati

Chandrapur: In a late-night operation, Bhadravati police arrested a 19-year-old youth for allegedly possessing nearly 1.5 kg of ganja which he was ferrying on a motorcycle.

The accused, identified as Kshitij Sanjay Junghare, a resident of Bhangaram Ward in Bhadravati, was caught near Chanda gate No. 3, Sumthana Chowk, around 1am on Saturday. The action was taken following a tip-off received by sub-inspector Mohan Dongarle and his team during routine patrolling in the area.

According to police sources, the youth was transporting the contraband from Chandrapur on a bike with a shoulder bag. On intercepting him and searching the bag in the presence of witnesses, police recovered a substance suspected to be ganja. Weighing experts confirmed the quantity to be 1.480 kg, valued at Rs 29,080.

The motorcycle, worth Rs 60,100, was also seized, taking the total value of the seized material to Rs 89,180.

The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Motor Vehicles Act. Further investigation is under way.
