'Dead' married woman reappears with lover in Gujarat

Send Push
RAJKOT: In a bizarre turn of events, a 27-year-old married woman presumed to have died by suicide in July suddenly appeared alongside her lover, leaving not only her family members but the Kutch police shocked.

After the woman, Rami Kesariya's startled father alerted the cops about her unexpected appearance at his house on Sept 29, the police traced her and her lover, Anil Gangal, after a few days to Rapar town and brought them to Khavda police station for questioning.

The investigation revealed that Rami, who was unhappy with her remarriage to a man named Kanji Chad earlier this year, set a wooden pyre ablaze at some distance from her in-laws' house on July 5. To further this act, she not only put her clothes in the fire but also burnt human bones to make it look like she had taken the drastic step.

Rami's parents and in-laws presumed that she had perished in the suicide bid and performed the final rites of the human remains found at the scene. They informed the Khavda police who had registered the incident as a suicide.

On Sept 29, much to the shock of her father, she appeared at his house in Nadapa village. Her father wondered whose final rites they had done, but Rami claimed she was unaware of the details. Her father then requested her to inform the police, but she refused and left for Rapar with Gangal. Ultimately, he told the cops, who used human and technical surveillance and traced the lovebirds to Rapar.

Khavda also collected some remains and sent them to the Forensic Science Laboratory (GSL) in Gandhinagar for examination.

The investigation is ongoing to determine whether the remains belonged to a man or a woman. Additionally, the police are also investigating the role of Gangal in the entire incident and where the couple had been living since July.

Rami's first marriage lasted only one year. She then began living with her father. In 2024, she got a divorce, and her family started looking for a second match. During this time, Rami wanted to marry Gangal, but societal norms did not permit it, leading to her eventual marriage to Kanji.
