Wet spell continues in parts of Saurashtra, north Gujarat

Ahmedabad: Wet weather persisted across parts of Saurashtra and north Gujarat for the sixth consecutive day, with parts of Porbandar and Rajkot districts recording three to four inches of rainfall. In north Gujarat, Idar town in Banaskantha was lashed by 4 inches of rain within two hours, resulting in waterlogging in several low-lying areas.

While many cities enjoyed cool mornings and evenings, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a gradual return of searing days. Daytime temperatures are expected to rise by 3°C to 5°C over the next week.

In Porbandar district, Kuytiyana reported nearly 4 inches of rain, followed by Jamkandorna in Rajkot with 3.11 inches. According to the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), 43 out of 253 talukas across Gujarat recorded rainfall.

In an unseasonably cool spell for the month of May, temperatures dropped significantly in several regions. Amreli recorded maximum of 34°C — seven degrees below normal. Rajkot, which was the hottest in state last week, saw its daytime temperature dip by four degrees with nights being even more pleasant.

The IMD has issued a thunderstorm alert for Sunday, predicting moderate thunderstorms with lightning and surface wind speeds of 50–60 kmph at isolated places in central and south Gujarat, covering districts such as Anand, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli, Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Gandhinagar, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, and Narmada.

Similar conditions are expected in the Saurashtra-Kutch region, including Rajkot, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, Diu, Surendranagar, Jamnagar, Morbi, Dwarka, Porbandar, Botad, and Kutch.
