Filmmaker-actor Anurag Kashyap, who is known for his bold storytelling and sharp opinions, recently addressed the swirling rumours about his alleged departure from the film industry. In March 2025, Kashyap moved away from Mumbai to a quieter city, sparking speculation that he had given up on filmmaking altogether. But the filmmaker was quick to set the record straight.
Taking to Twitter, he wrote, “I have relocated cities. I have not left filmmaking. For all the people who think I am frustrated and gone. I am here and I am busier than Shah Rukh Khan ( I have to be, I don’t make As much money). I don’t have dates until 2028. I have five directorial hopefully coming out this year or may be three now and two early next year. I have the longest IMDB and I am so employed that I say no to 3 projects a day. So pls go suck your own c@&₹ or if you are flexible enough lick your own a&&.”
Why he left Mumbai
Earlier this year, Kashyap had revealed in an interview with The Hindu that his decision to leave Mumbai stemmed from the changing environment within the film industry. “The industry has become too toxic. Everyone is chasing unrealistic targets, trying to make the next Rs 500 or Rs 800 crore film. The creative atmosphere is gone. A city is not just its structures but also its people. And here they pull you down.”
Slams CBFC for delaying Phule
Kashyap also took aim at the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for allegedly delaying the release of Phule, Ananth Mahadevan’s biographical drama starring Pratik Gandhi and Patralekhaa. The film, which has been accused of promoting casteism, has reportedly been asked to implement multiple cuts before its planned April 25 release.

Despite stepping away from Mumbai, Kashyap remains active in front of the camera as well. He will soon be seen portraying Inspector Swany in the upcoming action-drama Dacoit, alongside Mrunal Thakur and Adivi Sesh.
