Does Anna Wintour personally approve every Met Gala look? Here's the answer

Send Push
As the fashion world gets ready for the 2025 Met Gala, many are wondering about Anna Wintour’s role in the event. Rumours have said that the Vogue Editor-in-Chief personally approves every outfit on the red carpet, having full control over the fashion choices. But in a recent interview, Wintour herself revealed the truth-it’s much more of a team effort than people think.

Anna Wintour: Not the Fashion Boss We Thought
In a special preview on Good Morning America before the big event on May 5th, Michael Strahan asked Wintour if she rejects any outfit going to the Met Gala. She answered simply, "No."

At 75 years old, Wintour has spent many years shaping fashion history, but she says her role is less about strict control and more about giving advice. “Lots call and ask for our opinion, so we attempt and assist some of them to the best of our ability. Some, no clue,” she said with a smile, admitting that not all stars check with her before picking their clothes.

A Team Effort
While Wintour’s influence on fashion is huge, she made it clear that the Met Gala is a mix of personal style and some editorial guidance. Some celebrities-like Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, and Blake Lively-might ask Wintour and her team for tips, but others just follow their own style.

This shows that Wintour isn’t a fashion dictator but more of a helpful guide who supports creativity without stopping anyone’s personal expression or surprises. “Some, no idea,” she repeated, saying even she gets surprised by what shows up on the red carpet.

What to Expect in 2025
The interview also gave a hint about this year’s event. The theme is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” celebrating menswear and Black fashion influences. Co-chair Colman Domingo is already making news with his expected look, and everyone is excited to see how other big stars will dress.

Wintour, known for keeping secrets, didn’t reveal much but promised “show-stopping tailoring.” She also left room for surprises-even ones she might not know about yet.
