NEW DELHI: Shubman Gill continued his dream run in Test cricket, bringing up his 10th Test century on the second day of the second Test against the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
The 23-year-old India captain, who took over the leadership role following Rohit Sharma ’s retirement earlier this year, reached his fifth Test century as captain.

Gill’s milestone puts him in elite company.
He has now taken just 12 innings to reach five centuries as India’s Test captain — the second-fastest by an Indian skipper.
The legendary Sunil Gavaskar achieved the feat in only 10 innings, while Virat Kohli needed 18 innings to reach the same mark.
Globally, only Alastair Cook (9 innings) and Gavaskar (10) have managed to do it quicker than Gill.
The young opener has also joined an exclusive list of Indian captains to score five Test centuries in a single calendar year — a record previously achieved only by Virat Kohli in 2017 and 2018.
Gill’s 2025 season has been nothing short of spectacular.
In just 12 innings, he has already scored five centuries, putting him alongside Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar.
Kohli, for instance, reached five hundreds in 16 innings in 2017 and 24 in 2018, while Tendulkar had four in 17 innings back in 1997.
Since assuming captaincy, Gill’s performances have been exceptional. He struck his first century as India captain in the Leeds Test, scoring 147 runs, followed by a monumental 269 in Birmingham and a fluent 161 in the second innings of the same match.
He later added another ton — 103 in Manchester — showcasing consistency and class across conditions.
