Dallas Stars face a dangerous test in Game 1 without Miro Heiskanen

Send Push

The Dallas Stars are facing a huge hurdle as defenseman Miro Heiskanen has been scratched from playing Game 1 of their series against the Winnipeg Jets due to a recurring knee injury. The 25-year-old superstar defenseman has been a huge contributor to the Stars, and his absence is a big void seen in their defense line. Head coach Pete DeBoer made the announcement, and it appears to be a tough start for the Stars as they begin the playoffs.

Miro Heiskanen’s absence leaves a huge hole in defense

Miro Heiskanen has earned a long list of accolades for his elite playmaking, leadership, and game-controlling skills from the back end. Dallas' defense without Miro Heiskanen in Game One will leave a massive void, especially against the Winnipeg Jets' offensive weapons. Miro Heiskanen’s ability to play so many minutes as a defender and to be accountable defensively and contribute offensively has made him one of the most important players in the Stars lineup.

During the course of the regular season, Miro Heiskanen started all 82 games and ranked among the Dallas leaders in scoring, demonstrating the value he places on the entire game plan in Dallas. His absence will challenge others to help fill the void, and now the coaching staff will have the challenge of switching up their schemes without losing momentum.

Dallas faces pressure to adjust quickly without Miro Heiskanen
In the absence of Miro Heiskanen, the Stars will turn to their other defenders to rise up and play more significant roles. John Klingberg, Esa Lindell, and Ryan Suter will be required to carry more responsibilities to assist in covering the net and shutting down the Jets' scoring forwards. In addition, goaltender Jake Oettinger will be tested to his maximum as he receives more heat in making last-resort saves without his top defense partner in the lineup.

Dallas also has offense depth, where Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin will be looked upon to lead the way. Still, success will ultimately be determined by the extent to which their defensemen can cope playing without Miro Heiskanen.
