The Tampa Bay Lightning have chosen to bring goalie Jonas Johansson back for two additional years. The Lightning made the announcement on Wednesday that Jonas Johansson signed a two-year, $1.25 million-per-year contract. Jonas Johansson, played well when he was brought in this season. The Lightning would like to have a good backup to their franchise goalie, Andrei Vasilevskiy , and this signing sets them up to have another good season.
Jonas Johansson's consistent play gets him the contract extension
Jonas Johansson played in 19 games for the Lightning this season, recording a .895 save percentage and 3.13 goals against average. Not bad, but good enough to keep as the backup goalie while Vasilevskiy was out injured, filling the spot in place of him and keeping his team in games.

This season, Jonas Johansson played the most games that he had in his entire lifetime 26 to be exact. During his career, Jonas Johansson has played 80 NHL games, compiling a career numbers of a 3.29 goals against average and an .890 save percentage.
Jonas Johansson has spent time in the NHL with other teams including the Colorado Avalanche, Buffalo Sabres, and the Florida Panthers, he currently is with Tampa Bay and has become more consistent with the Lightning and they trust him to come in when needed. His new deal is proof of the team believing in him.
Tampa Bay Strengthens Its Goalie Unit with Jonas Johansson
Although Andrei Vasilevskiy is the Lightning's main goalie, even the top players get injured or require a break. With Jonas Johansson on board, the team believes they have a quality backup.
Jonas Johansson’s deal is also an excellent fiscal move by the team. For minimal cost, he brings quality depth, and the Lightning can be reasonable without exceeding their cap.
