Four booked for duping jobseekers; PSA slapped on two criminals in Jammu

JAMMU: Jammu & Kashmir Police's Crime Branch has registered three separate cases against fraudsters, including one already in custody, for allegedly duping several jobseekers of Rs 1.5 crore on the pretext of providing govt jobs, officials said Sunday.

Crime Branch (Jammu) SSP Benam Tosh said the FIRs were registered on the basis of separate complaints.

He said an FIR was registered against Ajay Kumar of Doda district on two complaints by six victims who claimed he had duped them of Rs 1.06 crore.

Another FIR was registered against suspended govt school teacher Jameel Anjum of Jammu on the basis of a joint complaint by nine victims. Anjum, currently in judicial custody in a separate case, duped them of Rs 39 lakh, the SSP said. The third FIR was registered against Iftikhar Ali and Nazir Ali of Ramban district following a complaint by Mohd Taki.

Meanwhile, police detained two criminals under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA).

Mohd Tahir, a native of Reasi district now living in Jammu's Bhatindi area, has a long criminal history. He was detained on the district magistrate's order and lodged in Kathua district jail, a police spokesperson said.

Another criminal, Hafizullah, of Nilote-Assar village in Doda, was detained and lodged in Bhaderwah jail.
