NEW DELHI: Despite mounting anxiety to get key legislations passed , govt indicated on Friday that a discussion on EC ’s Special Intensive Revision ( SIR ), being demanded by opposition , may not be feasible.
Sources in the govt pointed out that the EC is conceived as an independent entity. They also said that former Speaker Balram Jakhar had turned down a demand for a discussion on EC's functioning precisely for this reason. The clarification came even as the two Houses faced another washout on Friday due to opposition’s insistence on discussing the SIR of electoral rolls.
While the opposition looks set to persist with its protests, govt seems to be preparaing for scenario where they may have to get key legislations, with a law, passed amid disruptions.
