NEW DELHI: The Centre on Monday banned 16 Pakistani YouTube channels for disseminating provocative, communally sensitive content, as well as false and misleading narratives and misinformation against India.
The ban was imposed on the recommendation of the ministry of home affairs, targeting channels such as Dawn News, Samaa TV, Ary News, Geo News, and individual creators like former cricketer Shoaib Akhtar.
When Indian viewers attempt to access these banned channels, a message now appears on YouTube stating: "This content is currently unavailable in this country because of an order from the government related to national security or public order. For more details about government removal requests, please visit the Google Transparency Report."
This move comes days after India implemented diplomatic actions against Pakistan, including expelling Pakistani military attaches, halting the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960, and closing the Attari land-transit post, citing cross-border connections to the Pahalgam attack.
The government also suspended all types of visas for Pakistani nationals and ordered them to leave the country by April 27. However, medical visas will remain valid for an additional two days and will be revoked on April 29.
"In continuation of the decisions made by the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack , the Government of India has decided to suspend visa services to Pakistani nationals with immediate effect," the Ministry of External Affairs said. The ministry also advised Indians in Pakistan to return at the earliest.

Meanwhile, Pakistan denied any involvement and called for an "independent investigation" into the terror attack, requesting the intervention of Russia, China, or other "Western countries."
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the investigation into the attack and is intensifying efforts to collect evidence and question eyewitnesses in order to uncover the conspiracy. Following instructions from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the NIA registered a case in Jammu and deployed multiple teams to conduct the probe.
The attack, carried out by terrorists in the Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam last week, is one of the deadliest in the Valley since the 2019 Pulwama strike, which claimed the lives of 40 CRPF jawans. It is also one of the biggest terror attacks in the region since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.
